Hyla Brook Farm, LLC
Native Plants and Plants for Wildlife

Mission Statement

What we do:
Our mission is to provide you with exceptional plants selected for their beauty, wildlife benefits and ease of growing.  In offering these plants to you we strive to educate you as to their uses, benefits to wildlife and beauty so that you may make informed decisions when landscaping your own backyard habitat.  In choosing these plants, whether you are tackling a complete landscape restoration project or supplementing plantings in your own backyard, you are increasing the habitat diversity, preserving native plant species and attracting wildlife to your landscape.

Why we do it:
We began our business in 2003 because of our love of collecting and growing plants and our desire to preserve and restore our native landscapes.  We purchased an old farm in 2000 that was overrun with introduced invasives such as garlic mustard, tree of heaven, Japanese honeysuckle and mulitflora rose.  In addition, in our previous careers as environmental educator and biologist we witnessed the destruction of native landscapes across the country caused by the unintended consequences of the introduction of exotic plants.  Our struggle with eradicating these invasives on our own property and witnessing whole landscapes covered by kudzu, oriental bittersweet, purple loosestrife and miscanthus led us to the decision to provide only native plants that benefit wildlife in order to promote landscape restoration whether it be on a large landscape restoration project or in a small backyard.

How we operate:
We are a mail order retail native plant nursery located in Louisa County in central Virginia.  We offer a full range of container grown native perennials, shrubs and vines.  All of our plants are nursery propagated.  In addition to the mail order retail business, we will have several open houses at Hyla Brook Farm during the year.  See News and Events for details and directions.  We will also contract grow plants at your request.  Please call us at 540-967-6160 or email us at nativeplants@hylabrookfarm.com for details on contract growing.
